Fare thee well, Sam.
Oct. 16th, 2009 11:10 amThis morning mom withdrew his cold, stiff body from beneath my bed.
Last night he went to bed with me, and had a small bout of dry heaves. Then he curled back up against me like nothing was wrong. At some point he managed to vomit and wet the bed, then crawled over me and onto the comforter beside the bed. He cried quite a bit, and I called for him to come back up. He never did climb back up, though, and after awhile he grew silent. I figured he'd merely fallen asleep. At 7:00 AM when mom found him beneath the bed, there was vomit and some feces around him. >:-/
We feel Sam was taken from his mom too soon. He didn't receive the proper nutrients through her milk. Despite our cold compresses and washing of his eye, the conjunctivitis (or whatever it was) seemed to get steadily worse. The infection alone may have been enough to kill him, since he was too young to have developed a proper immune system.
Poor little guy. At least we doted on him and gave him our all until the end.
