This fellow was quite a character. Last year when dad and I visited him (I think it's a male, since the other crane in the enclosure was sitting on a nest), he would stand beside the bars and gaze longingly at passers by, until someone gullible approached him and fawned over him, reaching forward to pet him--and CHOMP! Most folks fell back in surprise without actually being wounded.
This time he was up to his old tricks. And this time he drew blood, twice! Serves people right--there was a sign right there on the fence that said Beware! Stay back from the fence.
