Since I moved here at the end of 1999, I've wanted to find a spiritual area to establish as my special place. Some natural spot nearby that felt right, personal, comforting.
Found it. I am thrilled!
It's a beautiful place in a nature preserve, next to a sprawling park beside the fairgrounds. Only a ten minute drive from my house.
After wandering through the large park with it's two man-made lakes, Erik and I veered off past the golf course to areas I had never been. The sign read "Nature Preserve, Do Not Disturb The Animals".
We followed the path and a colony of prarie dogs started barking at the sight of us. Shrill and incessant. We hoped the hawk we heard in the distance would come shut them up. >;-)
As we wandered, we made a mental note of all the potential spots we saw. There were more than a few.
We rounded a turn, and there was the hawk we'd heard in a tree high above us. It was huge. It cried occasionally at us, and all I could think of was the film "Ladyhawke".
We went further and sat at a dock on a nice big lake. We watched a school of carp that kept surfacing. Then we decided to head back to a cool bridge we'd seen behind us that led to a field. We had to off-road it as it was rough, weedy terrain, but we entered the field and went to the spot that felt right.
The field's more of a grove. It's mostly surrounded by trees with a nice flat overgrown area in the center. Ironically, we didn't say where we wanted to go but we went to the same spot anyway.
Our spot is a patch of golden and platinum weeds with sprigs of green and tall maroon plants. There's an old log there that's lost it's bark and is perfect for sitting on.
I brought some honey candy to leave for the spirits of the area, and burned some cedar incense in the abelone shell burner that
cyberwolf007 got me last year.
Fascinating storm clouds rolled in. The sky was dramatic and stunning. After a while it rained lightly and we wandered back to the car.
Too beautiful. The perfect area.
