Fragile

She crouched amid the rotting garbage. The alley was a dead end. Fitting name.

Ahead the busy street buzzed. Lights, laughter, shouting, car horns, music. The exhaust, the stench of humanity, was overwhelming.

Sometimes she needed to release the tension. Sometimes she needed to release the rage. Tonight was such a night.

She shifted her weight from hind paw to hind paw. The thrill of chasing and pouncing on prey sent a current of excitement down her spine. Wait for it, wait for it...

A girl stumbled drunkenly into the mouth of the alley. She yelled to her friends that she'd be right back, she just had to pee. She was giggling, and reeked of vodka and cloves.

Perfect.

She flexed her muscles and licked her sharp teeth.

The girl hesitated and peered her way. The girl sensed that she was not alone. "Here, kitty, kitty," the girl called nervously.

As she crouched, she thought of every ill man had brought to the world. Every injustice inflicted on her loved ones and to herself flashed before her eyes. Such a fragile, simple sack of skin and meat that is a human can cause such pain, can sow such hurt. Man knows right from wrong, good from evil. Why then does man choose negativity, gossip, hurt, greed, and excuses more often then not? Man even invented higher powers to blame for their own mistakes.

She tensed and sprang. Her muscular legs and sleek body glided effortlessy through the air, bridging the gap to the girl instantly. The girl's eyes widened in panic, and then the she-beast severed the girl's windpipe with a quick dash of a claw.

Such a fragile thing, man.
