Matrix: Reloaded
May. 16th, 2003 09:31 pmMatrix: Reloaded thoughts behind the blue LJ-cut...
Oy, where to begin...
I, like many others, was a huge Matrix fan. I enjoyed the look and feel of it, the complexly simple philosophy, Trinity (be still my beating heart!), the special effects; the whole package hooked me.
Thus, I was excited for Matrix: Reloaded.
Perhaps my expectations were too high. Perhaps I was too sleepy. Perhaps my pretzel was laced with valium....
Frankly, I was bored more often than curious.
The film did nada to draw me in or to engage me.
Oh, Trinity was good eye candy, a few of the special effects were neat, and the background music was outstanding. I'm sure most video game afficianados will love it, horny folks, and some people with ADD. It'll make huge bucks and achieve popularity regardless of the flaws because it's part of a pop culture franchise.
What the hell was with the slow motion mass orgy in Zion? I thought someone had accidentally inserted some BET dance party clip in there.
We all know Neo and Trinity are in love. It struck me as overkill that they were constantly pawing eachother, fucking, and making out. We see them waking up in bed together more than once, I think we can firgure out they do the nasty nightly.
The Key Maker. Aside from the Oracle, he was the most three-dimensional character and we barely got to know him before they killed him off!
All this "Cosality" shit. Building Matrix withing Matrix, Zion, after Zion. Why? And, more importantly... why care?
So no one has free will, we're all programmed progams, everything is run by programs (the sunset, wind, birds, etc.), God or whatever higher power is a master program...
Nothing new. All rehashed, repackaged, reworded philosophy from the first film.
I really wanted to like this film, but it soured me to the franchise. I'm not even curious to see part III, which says a lot, because I'm fond of drooling over Trinity.
Tomorrow,
cyberwolf007 should have his take on the movie.
