A curious bird day!

ferineWhat a curious bird day was Christmas.
My parents and I attended an early showing of the painfully exquisite The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button. The themes explored in the film were eerily appropriate given what's been weighing on my mind. During the drive to the Westminster AMC 24, we passed the golf course that has local fame for it's partial-albino Red-tailed Hawk (not a true albino, as it's eyes aren't red or pink) resident. In the summer it was taken to a raptor rehab as an errant golf ball had struck it in the wing. The hawk was back, perched high on the naked branch of an old Cottonwood, and it was nice to see.
Then, following the movie, an uncharacteristic call gave me goosebumps. Standing atop the brick overhang by the doors was a raven. Yes, a raven. I've seen crows in the area before, but this was a raven and definitely enunciated in it's throaty yet metallic timber. Shaken, I gazed up at the corvid and it eyeballed me in it's funny nearly-sideways manner.
Afterward we dined at an excellent new restaurant, East Moon Asian Bistro and Sushi Bar. Friendly service, surprisingly affordable dishes, artistic presentation, and the food was a delight to the palette. The menu was varied, offering Korean, Thai, Cantonese, Japanese, Mongolian, Vietnamese, and fusions of those.
Returning home at 5:00, the skies were congested with Canada and Snow Geese. Dad and I lingered outside the car staring up in amazement at the surreal scene, which lasted a good ten minutes.
Before bed I caught Jack Hanna on Larry King (on CNN) exhibiting various animals live in the studio. Among them were a Bald Eagle, a Golden Eagle, a Red-tailed Hawk, a Peregrine Falcon, and a Great Horned Owl. A sweet thing to witness before sleep.
