The initial DEATH ENCOUNTER--parts of a predated Double-crested Cormorant. Note the claws on the foot; though a waterbird, cormorants nest in trees. The sharp nails work like cleats on tree bark. Though we inspected the "crime scene", we're not sure what caused this bird's demise. It was spread down toward the reeds, and missing most parts save for a chunk of wing or thigh, remnants of its backside, one foot, and a few feathers. In the area were many fly fishing lines; perhaps the cormorant became entangled, and its struggle attracted a fox or a coyote.
