From Saturday (click each pic for the full photo):
The boys, Erik, and I ventured up to Boulder Creek Canyon, an old pack haunt when I lived in Boulder (Page two and page three).
Fueled up on Jamba Juice smoothies and hit the dusty trail. A few hikers, bikers, and joggers were out and about, but mostly congregated at the trail-head. We encountered a few during our walk, but there were enough isolated, quiet stretches to make us feel alone.
Around the first bend was a downed tree crossing the path. From the distance that the photo was taken I was sure there wouldn't be enough room to get me under. Cyberwolf tilted my chair backward so my feet were in the air and my head was low to the ground. While he scooted me forward he had to duck too. Huzzah, we made it! >:-D
Finding the mountain lion kill was an unexpected treat. The deer's cranium was punctured so perfectly by the cat's sharp teeth. it was amazing to inspect. We left the remains in the grass for rightful scavengers.
Jay picked one of the purple prickly pear cacti fruits for us, and cut away its exterior spiny skin. The "pear" is electric purple inside, and astonishingly sweet.
On the way back, before we reached the downed tree, we were visited by two utterly delightful bats! We couldn't focus the camera to take photos, as the bats flew too fast. They looked exactly like the cartoon Batman symbol. One circled and swooped less than ten feet above our stupidly grinning upturned faces. >;-)
