At the crossroads

Standing at the crossroads,
wind blowing in all directions.

Debris tearing up the eyes,
wiped away with the back of a sleeve.

Can't see down either road,
don't know what to expect.

Which one to take?

*Gingerly steps off the road and into the weedy field beyond*.

No more roads.
Moving on.

Pushing through

Working through,
pushing through,
to a phantom space,
to a mysterious place...

In a tree

Up in a tree, myself and me,
watching the world's misery

eyes wet, heart set,
prepared to defend against...

Against what? The bad?
