Nature writing (description of a hike).
Mar. 19th, 2006 12:54 pmWhen the boys, Erik, and I set out, it was mostly overcast with a biting, cold wind. As we left the parking lot a blue heron skimmed the lake surface, then sailed off into the distance.
As we made the trek to the preserve, Jay left the path to hunt for feathers. He found quite a few nice goose feathers in the surrounding weeds and shrubs.
At the preserve entrance Erik and I were surprised: The large sign of rules and coyote warnings was gone, and the area was pressed flat whereas it was landscaped with decorative stones prior. We surmised that the park rangers are preparing a new sign and sprucing up the immediate area.
