Back, in a sense.
Dec. 26th, 2003 10:12 pmWent into the ER around 11:45 PM.
Had four hours of waiting, tests, and more waiting.
Final diagnosis? My instincts were entirely correct, though not on the size: blood clot reaching from my groin to my knee. Specifically deep venous thrombosis, a blood clot in a large vein.
Rather than admit me due to the high risk of flu contagion in all local hospitals currently, I was sent home after a shot of some major muscle relaxant/pain killer, a shot of a blood thinner, and a blood-thinning pill.
When I returned home, the muscle relaxant/pain killer hit me like a steamroller. I kept dropping my food, my eyes shut involuntarily, and I was sobbing uncontrollably for no real reason. Therefor off to bed without a post to LJ at the time.
I slept soundly, unmoving, for 3 and a half hours!
A while ago I had to wake up to eat and take my meds. Get this: besides everything else I take, now I need to take 2 injections of Enoxaparin (Lovenox), 30 mg twice a day, to prevent other clots from forming.
Also Warfarin (Coumadin), 5 mg pills five times a day, to prevent the current clot from growing.
I return to the hospital Monday morning to get my blood looked at and to insure the the clot's shrinking.
Here's some odd factoids: while I have this painful stupid clot, which could be 6 months, I can't take any vitamins or eat anything with vitamin K. Also no asparin or ibuprofen, which sucks my non-existant balls!!!
My parents and I have to be on our toes and make sure the clot doesn't spread up to my lungs or heart. First sign of coughing or shortness of breath and back to the ER for me. Bleh!
The birth control pills are no more. I was told to discontinue them immediately as they increse the risk for clots greatly. Poo! Now the painful crampy periods will begin again. Oy!
Okay, I'll admit it. I'm honestly worried.
I'm sure I'll be fine, though.
And I love you all very much.
