"Were" Community?

Some people deserve it through their repeated actions, and the fact that no one seems to take their ego down a notch. Not that it's anyone's place, I guess; none of us are this person's living embodiment of karma. Or are we...? >;-)
Guess I'm just saddened by the "Were" cults of personality and garou gurus that have formed their ego and sense of self via the net.
I remember when we all formed our identity before the net, and we were all pretty darn diverse in our take on the animal within -- yet we listened and respected each other despite our differences.
There was also a lack of the mondo-bizarro phenotypes so popular now -- "My Little Pony"-griffons, dragonwolfzombies, yeti-yaks on snowboards, hermaphroditic space servals, five-tailed uni-Pokemon. What's up with that? It seems the next generation's trying to outdo each other with weirdness. Maybe what's perceived as uniqueness, to stand apart from the crowd?
There's no "Were" Community, just packs here and there that stay in touch via the net, the phone, and in person. It's always been that way (minus the net and even the phone for some of us). When someone blusters in with a huge flashy website of Ultimate Were Knowledge (TM), a heavily populated forum, board, or list that's severely moderated and censored, don't be fooled into believing all they say. It's largely a power trip, and the person's so deluded they probably believe their own hype.
"Greymuzzles", "elders", don't know everything. Hell, I'm one, Tracker's one, Shewolf's one, Daemon's one, Blackpaws is one, Leo's one, Gary's one, kj's one, Timber's one, Shadowfox is one, Megadog's one, Utlah's one, Tornir's one, Nightshade's one, Kristy's one, Trikster's one, Ahri's one, whew... I for sure don't know it all, thus I'd never have the ego to tell other animal people how to be.
I'm all for friends getting together. Unifying a "Were" Confederacy for the betterment of -- what, mankind? The world? -- is just a bit too malitia-sounding and Jim Jones for me, though, not to mention Werewolf: The Apocalypse.
Balance. Whatever happened to balance?
Being an animal person's unique and it rocks. I also do my bills, try to stick to a budget, read voraciously, listen to a diverse array of music, watch anime, make art for people, write poetry and prose, try to be a good person.
Keepin' it real. No need for the One True "Were" Army, a pack will do. >:-)
