The state of Georgia has a fearmongering ad campaign targeted at fat children. It's called Strong4Life. Here is an article about it from Paul Campos: Anti-Obesity Ads Won’t Work By Telling Fat Kids to Stop Being Fat. (Be careful about the comments.)

It's unfortunately typical that efforts to support children's health via nutrition and movement are cast as "anti-childhood-obesity" campaigns. Although some people argue that there's a difference between being against obesity and being against fat people, a lot of people don't feel there's any difference at all. Such a campaign singles out children who are fat and who consider themselves to be fat and supports (intentionally or not) othering, shame, self-blame, and bullying.

There is a movement against this ad campaign and in favor of Health at Every Size. One aspect of the movement is a series of posters with body-diversity-positive messages, here:

http://istandagainstweightbullying.tumblr.com/

Another aspect of the movement is The Billboard Project, which raised money to purchase billboard and bus shelter ad space in Georgia for offering a Health at Every Size message.

If you are so inclined, you can participate in the STANDard project by mailing your photo and words (beginning with "I stand") to marilyn at fatso dot com. She has a group of volunteers who are making the posters. You don't have to be fat to participate.

the past is rather
like a long cloak, embracing,
hindering, dragging

I'm still open for tarot business!

At this point I'm trying to help with grocery expenses. Eating right is still giving me sticker shock every time I go to the store. I hate it, at the moment. Hopefully, that'll change, as we get more savvy about it. Speaking of, thank you all for sharing your links and resources on my post last night.

I got some almond milk today, to try it in smoothies and stuff. Less carbs, and so I can be a little less cautious about how much I'm using. I'm currently trying to get all my carbs from whole foods-- fruit, veggies, etc. It feels restrictive, at the moment, but I think once I adjust, it will be fine. I know that it's much easier for me to eat breakfast at the moment. I like knowing what I'm eating first thing in the morning, makes it easy to roll out of bed and eat.

Sorry if the constant diet chat is problematic. It's just the biggest thing in my world at the moment.

In happier news, I have been playing FFXIII-2, and it makes me happy. It's like they took the best parts of the first game and shucked the crap bits. It's really awesome. :D I've also been playing City of Heroes with the David pretty regularly, and I have discovered that doing so really helps with the brain foo. Imagine that, kicking things in the face helps with brain foo! *g*

Anyway. I need to get on the writing, so I can finish my work, so I can play later. :)

I only just upgraded to Snow Leopard. I don't have Lion yet. Now you want me to upgrade to Mountain Lion? You have been spending too much time with Firefox developers.

(My Chibi Jobs icon is poignant now. Fooey. Time for a new Apple icon.)

We'll be beginning a code push in about 15-20 minutes. Please put up your seat backs and return your tray tables to the full and upright locked position. We'll update this entry when we're done!

(2:40AM EST: As always, the prep turns out to be more involved than we predicted. We'll hopefully be starting soon.)

3:10AM EST: And, we're done! Please report any issues here or to Support.

I am a straight 24-year-old female who has known my fiancé since freshman year of college. He has a fetish where he likes to watch women use the bathroom. I knew this, having seen some of his porn early on, and I accepted it. We all have kinks. But while peeing in front of someone isn’t that big of a deal, shitting in front of someone is hard.
So we had a lovely night going, when I had to poop. We went into the bathroom together. He got very horny, but I couldn’t go. I said I was ...

Apropos to a discussion going on now (Gender Controversy at PantheaCon 2012 Linkspam), what if the description for a gender-nonconformist-excluding ritual, instead of reading "genetic women only" or "female-born women only," read "people who can't tolerate complexity only"?

Beads for everyone!

Also, if you're looking for tarot goodness, head here!

I am planning a quiet day today. Feeling oddly sick, so I'm chilling. I had a thought in the shower about how unlearning the "special" myth is hard to parse, but I think I'm going to let that simmer more before I discuss it.

Anyway. Off to work.

We're currently planning to do a code push tomorrow night, tentatively scheduled for 2AM EST Wed 22 Feb/11PM PST Tue 21 Feb (7AM GMT Wed 22 Feb). Most changes scheduled for this push are minor and there shouldn't be any more than a few minutes' disruption to service.

We'll update when we begin for you to report any potential issues you notice.

Updates and such.

Nope, wasn't shortlisted nor nominated. But Wolf At The Door managed to get on to the Nebula suggested/recommended reading list. To me, the novel finding an audience is humbling enough.

Many grateful thanks to those who have bought, read, signal boosted and supported the novel. :)

increments are still
progress, tiny little steps
to one big goal line

I'm taking tarot readings all week! I have very little going on other than writing, so... :D Act now and get your spot!

Dental foo today, which was remarkably trouble-free. I had to get my teeth cleaned. The hygenist said that things are looking good. There was one spot she needed the Dr to look at, and I need a filling, but given how the last several decades have been, it was so much better than before.

I am happy, all things considered. I'll get the filling, in a month or so, and be good until October or so.

And tomorrow, I've got nothing going on, so I'll be able to work on the book hardcore. For the rest of today, working on book stuff, and then later playing in City of Heroes with the David. :D

Back to work with me. :)

Blockbusters returns!

D'you remember Blockbusters - the quiz show with Bob Holness? It was the early evening quiz show when I was in school, and I remember it well.

They - meaning various cable TV production companies - have tried to revive it several times since it went off the air; the latest attempt is going to be on Challenge later this year. Anyhow, Sis got tickets to be in the audience for the final show of the season. Actually, it was kind of a weird deal - she wants to be in the audience for some other show, and to get tickets for that you had to go to this one. Evidently I was her last choice as a companion; none of her friends were interested. But we went up to London today for the filming, and we had a blast!

Simon Mayo is the quizmaster, which I didn't think would work - the guy is a DJ - but he did a fair job of it. Being the last ep it was a celebrity special. Um, I don't know if I can remember everyone as despite the 'celebrity' label I haven't a clue who some of them were. Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee - Paul didn't manage to answer a single question. As far as I could tell he didn't even attempt to buzz once. Fatima Whitbread teamed with, uh, Kevin something or other from some boy band. Andy James...I think he's a music person, too. And Konnie Huq (ex of Blue Peter). The format was identical to the 90's version - team of two vs a solo player. The graphics are a bit more slick, but otherwise it looked about the same. Sis and I had front row seats, so I'll have to look out for it when it airs (they didn't tell us when it would be - only 'later this year'), just in case.

Fun day.

Black and grey forepaws

The matching set of black and grey forepaws for a client.

Location: The Workshop

As the text says, these are the matching hands to go with last week's feet. The client has them now, and says he's pleased with them.

There will be a brief interruption in the workshop the first week of next month; I'm (finally) getting a wisdom tooth removed, and if last month's dental issues and infection are anything to go by, the recovery from that will slow me down for a couple of days.

H and I got this for Christmas, and it's totally taken this long for me to post pics of it. I know, right?

Get it? CAPRICA? Toaster? Hahahahahahahaha!

I forgot to resize one of the pics, so it's going under a cut for hugeness )

In other news, recording with my first child actor went swimmingly. He was enthusiastic and professional. I learned that a lot of the same skills one uses in customer service also help when working with children. There are pics of that event, but they will not be posted here. Sorry...

My interview with Night of the Living Dead's Judith O'Dea is now posted over to the Zombie Zone News. It's a really good one. She's a delight!

Baking: Winter Apple Bread

Best bread recipe ever, I swear!

Another Dan Lepard recipe, this one is a wholemeal loaf made with grated apple, onion and toasted sunflower and pumpkin seeds. There is almost no fat in the recipe but the apple makes the crumb almost as moist as cake. I used the steam method to bake it (a tray of boiling water placed on the shelf under the loaf in the oven) which got me a firm but not crunchy crust.

Dan recommends this bread for a pork sandwich, which is how I planned to eat it. But pulled pork takes a long time to cook and by the time I was done with the bread I was hungry. So I turned the first few slices into cheese on toast using mild cheddar mixed with a little soft cheese and a wee bit of mustard. Seriously, this is the best cheese on toast I have ever eaten!

I can't wait to try it with the pork.

ETA: I got it from Dan's book but I found the recipe online if anyone wants to try it.

Vacation has been lovely, but I miss my kitties so I can't wait to get home.

I have been having thoughts about willpower that I'm hoping I will be able to compose into a post. I don't know yet, because they're kind of formless at the moment. I'm going to keep thinking about it as we head home, and see what develops.

We're going to be traveling, so I am not sure if I will have the energy to respond to your comments. If not, I will definitely do it over the weekend. Hope everyone has a great day!

Updates and stuff.
